5 Hidden Gems of the Dingle Peninsula You’ll Never Forget

West Kerry is full of familiar favourites — Inch Beach, Slea Head, and Mount Brandon to name a few.
But what I love most are the quieter places, the ones you might stumble upon by chance when the light is soft and the wind has dropped.
Here are five of my favourite hidden corners of the Dingle Peninsula — the places that remind me why I fell in love with this landscape in the first place.

1️⃣ Aughacasla Beach – Calm After the Storm

Tucked just west of Castlegregory, Aughacasla is one of those beaches that changes every day.
Some mornings it’s glassy and calm, others it’s wild and full of movement.I often walk here with my camera after a night of rain — the air is clean, the colours are fresh, and the mountains of Caherconree rise quietly in the background.
It’s a place that reminds you to breathe

2️⃣ Glanteenassig Woods – The Forest of Reflections

Hidden inland behind Castlegregory, Glanteenassig feels like another world. A quiet mountain valley filled with forest walks, still lakes, and echoes of birdsong. On misty days, the reflections on the water are pure magic. If you visit, bring a flask of tea and take your time — it’s a place to pause, not rush.

3️⃣ Bluebell Woods – Camp.

In the heart of the bluebell woods, a breathtaking carpet of vibrant blue stretches as far as the eye can see, inviting weary souls to pause and unwind. The delicate, bell-shaped flowers sway gently in the breeze, creating a serene melody that harmonizes with the rustling leaves overhead. Here, amidst the sweet scent of earth and flora, one can truly escape the chaos of the world, finding solace in nature's embrace.

4️⃣ Dingle Pier – The Quiet Harbour

Nestled along the rugged coastline of County Kerry, Dingle Harbour is a picturesque haven that paints a serene picture of coastal life. The harbour is not just a place for boats; it's a vibrant tapestry of the natural beauty and cultural vitality that define this charming town. Here, the rhythmic sounds of waves lapping against the hull of a resting boat create a soothing soundtrack, inviting visitors to take a moment to breathe in the salty air and appreciate the surroundings.

5️⃣ Stradbally – Where Sky Meets Sand

Stradbally Beach stretches for miles — a vast open space that feels both endless and intimate. Walk far enough and you’ll often have the whole beach to yourself. In winter, the low sun casts long golden shadows across the sand. It’s one of the best places on the peninsula to clear your mind and just be.

💬 Final Thoughts

These hidden gems are what West Kerry is all about — a balance between wildness and peace, movement and stillness.
Each has its own rhythm, and each tells a part of the peninsula’s story.
If you ever visit, take the time to wander. The beauty of West Kerry isn’t just in its views — it’s in its quiet moments.
